RARA Food

Let Your Tummy Rock

Food is somewhat of a passion at RARA. We understand that getting out into the open air and taking part in our active holidays could give you quite an appetite and what a perfect opportunity to eat healthy portions of delicious home-cooking.

With our home-from-home style service, every meal is cooked with great care using fresh seasonal ingredients. Rural France is a wonderful place for food-lovers. At local markets a wide variety of garden fresh vegetables, as well as numerous varieties of lush lettuces and deep red tomatoes on the vine are available in abundance. With our On-Tour service, RARA will share with you some favourite restaurants where you can get a taste of the French food-culture, enjoying long leisurely mealtimes and selecting wine to compliment your choice of dish.

Reflecting regional flavours and supporting local producers inspires our menu planning. Along with benefiting from the bounty of it's coasts and rivers, the indulgent flavours of camembert cheese, Isigny cream, cider and calvados help to garnish every Norman plate. Hearty Pyrenean cuisine consists of cured hams, a diversity of cheese and fish from mountain lakes washed down with full-bodied Madrian Rouge wine.

With your active holiday being fuelled by the hearty fruits of the RARA kitchen, you should leave us feeling healthy and glowing. We hope that the variety of dishes you enjoy with us might even inspire you to try something new in your kitchen and treat yourself to some home-cooked tasty goodies.

Yummy picnic lunches

By prior arrangement as an additional service, we can provide your party with a delicious lunch on the go. Let us know if we can make you a Lunchbox or a Picnic and we will find the perfect beauty spot where you can enjoy it.

Lunch box: deep-filled crusty baguettes with fresh salad and a filling of your choice, snack bar, crisps, and juice.

Picnic: local cheese, ham and pate, cornichons, mixed leaf salad and vine tomatoes, crusty baguette and French butter, crisps and a fruit tart. Served with mineral water, local apple juice and cider or wine.

Celebration Food

Whether you're just rejoicing at the arrival of the weekend, the rare occasion of quality time with friends or the special event of a family birthday, we have two special meals to help you celebrate.

Hog Roast

The ceremony of watching a whole pig being slowly turned and roasted on a spit in the outdoors, will make your mouth water with delight. Sourced from a local farm and delivered to the fire-pit at the farmhouse, your suckling pig will be chosen for the size of the group. The chef will baste the meat over 6 hours to ensure the crispiest skin and most succulent meat, so that you can return home from an active day to the aroma of barbecued meat. After feasting on a banquet of tender pork with apple-sauce, crackling, braised red cabbage, and potatoes roasted alongside the pig, you'll be left to share stories around an open fire in the garden.

Champagne Picnic

After an action packed morning, let us pamper you a little with a delicious champagne picnic. To accompany carefully prepared smoked salmon sandwiches and delicious bubbly, we will prepare a mouth-watering spread to include; a home-cooked quiche, pasta salad made with fresh garden herbs, French bread and local cheeses, followed by a home-made fresh fruit tart. Prepared from fresh ingredients especially for you, your Champagne Picnic Lunch will be presented in a beautiful nature spot convenient to your activities, such as beneath the trees on the bank of the winding River Orne or atop a granite cliff overlooking the river valleys of Swiss Normandy.
